Why I need to get married-by my mom

The reasons my mother wants me to get married:

1. We are a family of 3 people and I am the only daughter. I am the youngest cousin on my momโ€™s side. We have only given gifts to everyone till now for thread ceremonies/engagements/marriages, etc. It is about time we receive some gifts. Well, atleast she is honest about it. ๐Ÿ˜›

2. She has been attending marriages and she says she has been craving for the rituals to happen in our household too.

3. The woman loves food, and the wedding food especially. She has been going on and on, about how she will eat in my wedding. (She went to the temple the other day for Gajanan Maharajโ€™s appearance day, and the only thing she described to us was the food served. In eloquent details.)

4. She is just looking for reasons to shop and get new sarees and jewelry.

5. She wants guests to visit us and see our new apartment after they move there in May-June.

On a side note, my parents expressed their strong desires to go and see ‘Shaadi Ke Side Effects’. They really want to watch that movie. Go figure.

  1. Haha… Do you have any reason why you shouldn’t be married? ๐Ÿ˜‰
I guess parents think on a whole different level. I mean I have tried to understand them over the last year or so ( since I told them to try finding someone for me ) and realised that there is a whole plethora of things they bother about- most being not so important ๐Ÿ™‚ ” Wait till you have kids”, is the standard jibe when I try to act cool ๐Ÿ˜›

    • Hahaha. Yeah, parents can be really really weird. Well, I have a bagful of reasons to not get married and my parents know about most of them, specially the xBF part. Also, I keep giving them gyaan from the blogs I read. ๐Ÿ˜›

      • You know… this is really bad. Of late, there have been at least 3 friends who broke up with their partners ( within the last week or so ) for some reason or the other. Irrespective of how opinion on their ‘relationships’, I would have been happier with them being content with it. But it was not meant to be so.

Why is it that there are so many broken relationships? IS it because people do not believe in the all-encompassing, absolute love? I think so. Even mine was as pedestrian and ordinary.

Come on! There are just too many reasons why anybody would want to get married ๐Ÿ˜‰ We don’t throw away our right to enjoy life just because its messed up a little. You seem to be a smart girl, you know this right?

        • Hehe. I know ๐Ÿ™‚
It got messed up due to different priorities and some practical reasons. And those very reasons are gonna make marriage very difficult for me. Anyways, heart has its own mind. ๐Ÿ™‚
          Lets see what happens.

          • Trust me, there always is this ‘practical’ dimension of breakups which people say. And of course, in the same breath they say ‘priorities’ ๐Ÿ˜€ I am not saying that yours was obvious but its just that… it was not absolute. Love is either absolute, or it isn’t. But maybe thats just me thinking out aloud.

Don’t worry about apprehensions regarding married life. Things have a way of sorting themselves out. The best of things, happen late ๐Ÿ™‚

            • Well, I agree with you. Our love was weak where priorities took priority(:P) everything else. But I havent lost hope. It is just that now, i have a huge list of things that I will need in a guy to match. Like NEED need. Hehe. The things that I know me and the xBF needed to sort our lives out. Life is funny.

              • The more you are expressing yourself, I get this feeling you are my twin or something on this front ๐Ÿ˜› . Very difficult to get into relationships when you have put in a lot in the earlier one ๐Ÿ˜ฆ But of course, there is always hope. I think we can live with that.

I know about priorities taking priority ( well said! ). When things start it is all about love, heart, and long chats filled with a perfect world view. Somewhere along the line, we lost that idealism and switch sides to become practical. Sad thing is, people like me failed to make that switch ๐Ÿ˜›

I always tell this to my friends: things only get better with time. Haven’t been proven wrong till date ๐Ÿ™‚ So… am sure you will be great!

                • My dad said our honeymoon phase got over and our compatibility/practicality issues popped up. He isnt wrong. We both had unrealistic expectations knowing fully what the other person wants, and our family backgrounds were so different that it made it harder. Anyways, life goes on.
I liked your last 2-3 sentences.
We are like wine, honey. We just get better with age. ๐Ÿ˜‰

                  • I totally agree. We definitely get better with age.

Unrealistic expectation is something that is bound to cave in. Just look at how these relationships begin. Someone gets impressed by looks/intellect or something of that sort. Nobody cares for the person we are totality. At least, I didn’t. Even when the relationship was booming along, I didn’t care much for her views on life and other things- believing that I will do her part of thinking on my own ๐Ÿ™‚ The point is, we fail to read signs when heart takes things over: damn you bollywood !

I cried buckets of tears while watching ‘Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani’. Who does that? And that movie? Haha…. But it kind of resonated with my life, so I ended up shedding copious amounts of tears…

Arre saari movies resonate with our lives. Moviemakers are taking advantage of our demographic dividend. They know our youth population is bulging, so they make movies of this sort. Amazing strategy, right ๐Ÿ™‚

I started watching romcoms of late. Even if they don’t make sense, at least it gives me a good laugh. You can try that ๐Ÿ™‚ Start with 500 Days Of Summer- my favourite ๐Ÿ™‚

I like romcoms. I like the feel good factor. I will catch that over the weekend. I liked Hasee Toh Phasee. One of my fav is 50 first days.

                    • You can’t download it over there? They said something similar back in my college as well ๐Ÿ˜‰ I am very much into open-source. So, free is good!

50 first days was good. HTP is an amazing movie, except for the part where Chopra tries to act geek without knowing how geeks are. But thats ok because if you look at bollywood, they simply do not make movies with strong woman characters. Here was a girl who didn’t talk about getting married or falling in love till the very end. So… yes. Giant leap for bollywood ๐Ÿ™‚

Well, Torrent and stuff is banned here. I know people who have gotten in trouble here, so I dont want to risk it. Specially since I am on a visa and all that.

Haha.. No No. You shouldn’t try all that. Torrent is what people used. What I used was Tor. A little complicated, but then don’t we enjoy doing all that in college days ๐Ÿ˜›

Yeah, she is sweet, but she can be very difficult. Our maximum time together fightless is 4 days. Poor dad suffers between 2 hot headed people. But I have a few aces up my sleeve, about the marriage issues. I will play my cards at the right time. :). I feel like Shakal while saying all this. Lol.
